Leaving West Worthing at 10 am on Sunday morning was hard. After several dry days the weather forecast accurately predicted early rain. Our ten riders were not to be deterred! Donning extra layers and waterproofs we cycled along the unusually quiet seafront bikepath. This proved to be the wettest part of the ride as turning north in Portslade we were in more sheltered conditions to climb up through Hangleton and onto the Dyke railway path. Sadly our views were masked by the mist on this part of the ride. Things looked much more cheerful after a welcome break at the Hiker’s Rest tea garden at Saddlescombe Farm. Lunch at Henfield proved to be a lengthy affair although the Sussex Smokies were approved by all who sampled them. We returned via the Downs Link for well- earned tea and cakes at Phil & Verna’s house.
