ride by Liz & Ken

*****Ride and report by Liz & Ken On a very pleasant October morning seven of us met up in the far western reaches of our area in the nature reserve car park at West Stoke, not far from Chichester. The morning route had us climbing up on to the downs past the sculpture park – which appears to have lost the one sculpture that used to be visible from the road. Once up on the top we stopped for a while at the roadside for a refreshment stop and could just make out the sea in the distance in the hazy sunshine. After a fast run back down to Eartham we negotiated a slightly muddy off road section followed by the snaking footbridge over the A27 to Tangmere. Sunday lunch, which involved a certain amount of queuing, was generous and pretty good value at the garden centre in Runcton. After lunch the route was very flat using bits of various cycle routes past Chichester Marina at Birdham and on to the historic village of Bosham. Luckily the tide was well on the ebb and the shore road had dried off nicely. We had tea and cakes in the little craft centre tea room from where it was only a few miles back to the start. A pleasant ride of roughly 40 miles.
