May 2nd to 4th

*****Rides and report by Liz & Ken 10 camping units met up for our May Bank Holiday weekend at Church Farm campsite in 6d Handley where we had the rally field to ourselves. Saturday We left more or less on time at 09:30 and had a good run to coffee in Fordingbridge. Nest we had a brief foray into the New Forest national park area to see wild roamimg cattle and donkeys (a very respectable 8 – or was it 9? donkey day). Some forest tracks then took us to lunch at the Moors Valley Country Park for lunch and a look at the little steam trains. After lunch a bit of rough stuff and a couple of ensuing punctures saw us get back at about 17:00 – in time for showers and rest before and excellent meal in the campsite restaurant. Luckily no rain despite the forecast but a chilly wind. 47 miles ridden. Sunday The morning dawned with heavy rain and with consultation around the camp we abandoned the early start and eventually left at 09:40 when the rain had stopped. We had to do plan B and miss the two big hills that were planned before coffee – strangely though nobody was complaining as we took the less hilly and quicker route to Tarrant Gunvillle where we had coffee outside in the sunshine. Very pleasant and quite country lanes took us to lunch in Wimborne Minster and then on to tea in Cranborne. The rain held off until we got back to camp – but then started again and with a strong wind which meant that the planned barbecue was called off. 43 miles. Monday A smaller group of riders headed out on the Monday for the route to Shaftsbury, for coffee looking down the infamous Gold Hill, returning up the aptly named zig-zag hill. 31 miles. Thanks to everyone who came along from groups all over the south east corner of England.
