Ride by Russell and Rachel

Last time we attempted this route, in February 2013, the weather conditions were so appalling that a keel would have been more appropriate than wheels. Happily, the forecast this time was looking better so off we headed, ten intrepid tandemists, through the lanes to lunch at Rotherwick, stopping on the way for coffee in picturesque but noisy Hartley Wintney. The route was fairly easy with plenty of time to admire the snowdrops and crocuses along the way. Spring was definitely in the air! After a good lunch at the Coach and Horses we set off again, this time in light dri le, suitably refuelled and ready to tackle the hillier part of the ride. The rain held off, more or less, but the conditions were just that bit too overcast to appreciate the lovely views over open fields around Odiham and Crondall. An interesting off-road section through army forest land proved to be rather more interesting than expected as the logging machines had been hard at work since the recce ride two weeks previously, but we managed it without mishap and rejoined the road for a fast last couple of miles back to Farnborough for tea and cake. A good day’s ride, 38 miles in all. *****ride and report by Russell and Rachel
