ride by Liz & Ken

***** Ride and report by Liz & Ken Given the horrendous conditions in the north of the country caused by storm Desmond we were quite lucky to just have an overcast and windy morning for our pre Christmas lunch ride. However the forecast had put some riders off and so there were six tandems, most festively decorated, setting off from Edenbridge. The slightly lumpy route took us through Markbeech and Cowden and then along the pretty Furnace Lane which fortunately offered quite a bit of shelter from the gusty SW wind. We skirted around the edge of the racecourse and then into Lingfield for coffee in the Red Rum Café. Here we were entertained (it doesn’t take much) by the model train running around the room on a track up by the ceiling. After coffee we did a bit of a loop around to the north and back into Edenbridge via Staffhurst Wood to make the ride distance about 22 miles. Back at the Old Eden a total of 22 people gathered for our Christmas lunch meal in the secluded upstairs restaurant. With a couple of minor hiccups it was a great meal (I don’t know how the non-riders managed to eat it all!) served by some cheerful young staff. After the meal we presented David and Caroline with the Surrey and Sussex most rides trophy for having done every ride this year. Congratulations to them and thanks to everyone who has organised and attended our rides during 2015.
