Ride by Liz and Ken

*****Ride and report by Liz and Ken As usual in January we had a good turn out of seven tandems keen to start the year hopefully as they mean to go on. It was nice to welcome some members new to our region, Phil and Ann who have very recently moved from Leicestershire. We all met in Cuckfield on a crisp morning with sunshine early but clouds building steadily during the day just as forecast. The lanes to the north and east of Haywards Heath were very wet after all the rain and potentially a bit icy but we managed to avoid the worst patches safely. During a brief stop for biscuits in Fletching we were cheerfully told of a nice café which welcomed cyclists by a customer returning to his car. Maybe another time, as we had booked in at the pub for 12:00 to 12:30 and time was ticking on. It wasn’t much further on to lunch at the Cock Inn at Wivelsfield Green which was very plentiful and tasty. By the time we left the warmth of the pub it had turned distinctly damp so we didn’t hang about and headed back through Ditchling and past Hurstpierpoint College. The last but one climb of the day was a bit of a drag up to Ansty where the only puncture of the day (Tim and Chris) was quickly mended. From here it was only a mile or so back into Cuckfield for tea and cakes in the cosy tea room at the end of about 30 miles.
