Ride by Keith and Jane

*****Ride and report by Keith and Jane Well the weather forecast was right. Rain and oh boy did it! Six tandems met at Hailsham Leisure Centre and the rain had already started. Off to Rickney then across the marshes we went and following a straw pole coffee and tea was taken. The people running the café were a little startled as 12 very wet cyclists walked in!

A few hills that had the leaders bringing up the rear then ensued, through Cowbeech, Rushlake Green and towards Old Heathfield, before we got to the lunch stop at Vines Cross. The Brewers Arms welcomed us in and allowed us to put our wet clothing around the two log fires, very accommodating. A sign on the door said no vests or singlets but nothing about no cycle shorts and bare feet! Lunch was served very promptly and 12 clean plates must have meant the food was very good.

Back out into the rain and through Horam, Gunhill, past the Arlington Reservoir and then into the Arlington Tea Rooms. This had a Halloween Theme with many pumpkins for sale; some so large it would have been impossible to pick up. Then it was just a couple of miles back to finish, and yes it was still raining. A ride of 35 miles.

Many thanks for all turning out on such a bad day and although we struggled up the hills we enjoyed the ride and the company.
