Ride by Liz and Ken

*****Ride and report by Liz & Ken Fortunately the dire warnings from the weather forecasters regarding snow and ice proved incorrect and we were greeted with clear skies and a temperature safely above freezing. This was a bit of luck as the West Sussex lanes were very wet and would have been treacherous had the cold weather materialised. A good turnout of 8 tandems and 1 solo assembled at Southwater Country Park, it was nice to see Rex and Jude, who don’t ride out with us very often, and great to see Malcolm and Julie out on their first club run with the Surrey and Sussex group. We set off southwards and around Shipley, with its eight sided smock windmill. In West Chiltington we stopped for a short break for drinks, clothing adjustment and to wiggle some feeling back into toes and fingers. Onwards then through Billingshurst to The Limeburners pub at Newbridge just to the west of the town. Suitably fed and watered we continued north now through The Haven and then Slinfold, the single puncture of the day was mended near Itchingfiled from where it was a short hop back to Southwater past the extensive grounds of Christ’s Hospital School. The café at the country park provided welcome tea and cakes at the end of about 33 miles.
