Reigate to Guildford - 16th September

A few of us got together for an impromptu ride starting from Dorking in order to catch a brief glimpse of the riders passing by on the last stage of the 2012 Tour of Britain from Reigate to Guildford. After a very pleasant ride along Route 22 from Dorking we arrived in Abinger Hammer for a relaxed Tea/Coffee/Teacake. At least it was relaxed for us - the staff seemed to be struggling with all the customers gathering ready for the riders to pass. We moved a little further along to Gomshall, and watched the riders as they negotiated the bends under the railway bridge. A group of 4 were off the front, looking like they were enjoying a Sunday club ride, with the peloton cruising along behind. Once they had passed we climbed up through very quiet lanes to Winterfold and the last KOM of the race. A wicked climb of 21%. We walked up towards the finishing line and got a place behind the barriers just before the finish. At the bottom of the climb the group of four were still about 1 minute ahead, but they had been caught by the top. We then descended down to Ewhurst, carried on through Walliswood, up Weare Street to Capel, then on to Brockham, arriving just in time for tea and cake, and to meet up with Tim and Anne, who had watched the start at Reigate and the KOM at Leith Hill.
