Ride by Phil and Verna

*****Report by Phil and Verna: Our crew of 13 arrived bright and early in Storrington for the ten o’clock start on a beautiful autumn morning laden with the promise of hot sunshine to follow! Actually what did follow was a treasure hunt throughout the town. We were looking for the elusive WC. It appears that on Sunday at 9.30 in the morning this facility is not available…so with legs (figuratively) crossed we pedalled away. Teasing our patient followers we did not stop at the tempting café at Houghton bridge but headed up for the open country and views from Bignor Roman Villa. Relieved and replenished we began the second third of the ride towards Wisborough Green. With the sun now beating down we were pleased to have chosen a shady tree-lined route. Once again eschewing a favourite haunt we turned past the pub on the Green and meandered down the lane to the Bat & Ball. We were such good customers the chef came out to try and tempt us back on a regular basis! After taking photos with the Shepherds’ vans on the camping field we were off again, circling back to the start, with a short rough track and bridge over the Arun to begin the afternoon. Our early return meant we had plenty of time to sit by the pond and savour the Belgian chocolate covered ice creams from Waitrose.
