*****Ride and report by Clem

There were 7 of us that braved the day after heavy overnight rain. Luckily, by the time we left Polegate station the rain had stopped. We had a little bit off road which was flooded near the start and a couple of muddy patches in the middle. At the end of this section of off road the wet weather gear came off. We then headed over to Arlington Reservoir for coffee. Unfortunately the snack bar didn’t open as promised, so we went had a quick break looking at the now apparently full reservoir and continued on through Ripe, Laughton, Broyle Side, High Cross and then on to East Hoathly for lunch. Just as we arrive the rain returned but fortunately had finished by the time we’d finished our excellent lunch. We then made our way through Chiddingly, Muddles Green, Chalvington, Upper Dicker and then around Halisham for afternoon tea at The Old Loom Mill. From here it was a short ride down the Cuckoo Trail back to Polegate after almost exactly 40 miles. Just as we got back to the start it started to rain once more, almost perfect timing except for the three that had to ride home. At least it stayed dry during the ride with the sun coming out for a while. Thanks to all that came for the ride.
