*****Ride and report by Liz & Ken A very select group of three tandems met for our annual December Mince Pie Ride. The day dawned grey and with the fresh NW wind it felt colder than the thermometer was telling us it was. We headed out along the seafront where we were able to watch a few hardy yachts out racing and the Eastbourne Lifeboat, presumably out on a training trip. At Pevensey we turned inland and headed across the levels. We stopped briefly at the aptly named Chilley Farm and eventually came to the first uphill which warmed us up a little. We had a leisurely lunch at the Merrie Harriers in Cowbeech where we sat close to the roaring fire. After much brain racking and with the help of the landlady we found out what a couple of the strange agricultural implements were that were displayed in the large fireplace. Apparently devices to attach to the noses of calves to wean them from their mothers! After lunch the sun had come out which gave us a nice ride back, most of it traffic free on the Cuckoo Trail from Horam back in to Eastbourne. Much deserved mince pies and chocolate cake were then consumed and the Most Rides Trophy for 2012 was presented to Tim and Anne who have only missed 2 of the qualifying 14 rides this year.
