Ride by Rob and Ruth

*****Ride and report by Rob and Ruth

A very respectable group of twenty two riders on board ten tandems and two solos, set out from Nonsuch Park, Cheam in Surrey. There was a definite autumnal feel as we threaded our way through all the dog walkers. Elevenses was taken at the Pleasure Pit lane Garden Centre, Ashtead, which certainly lived up to its name. We then had the steady climb through Headley to look forward to, culminating in a marvellous view from the top of Box Hill of the surrounding Surrey countryside. Unfortunately, Mark & Mags had a puncture, but this didn’t hold us up unduly, & we made our way down the Zig-Zag to the bottom of Box Hill and along to The Plough at Leigh for lunch. The chilly atmosphere was enhanced as lunch was spent outside, but Neville avoided the cold by producing some very racy headgear & ordered a hot curry. Shrewd move! Shortly before tea , Mark & Mags achieved their second puncture & sadly had to catch the train home. The rest of us rolled into Denbies vineyard, Dorking for tea & cakes. Then we took the easy route along the Mole valley to Nonsuch Park.
