Ride by Phil and Verna

10.00 sharp West Worthing station car park. Coffee in Steyning and Lunch in Fulking.

*****Report by Phil and Verna

What a lovely day. Again.

In spite of holidays for some we had a good turnout of 6 tandems, including 2 Pinos, and one solo for our outing.

After a flat start along the coastal path to Shoreham to admire the lagoon we climbed up out of the airport to our coffee stop at Steyning. In spite of it being the last day of the local festival we easily found spaces in one our favourite haunts and of course sampled the delicious cheese scones and cakes on offer.

Fortified we set off on our next offroad section using the Downs link cycle path to Henfield, before rejoining the road to lunch in Fulking. Today’s pub offered the opportunity for our youngest member to test out the cooling properties of a passing stream. It may be some time before those shoes are completely dry. Sorry Caroline.

En route to the next hilly bit, the Devils Dyke, Philip spotted a retail opportunity. Someone was selling homegrown rhubarb. Needless to say the leaders’ tandem suddenly acquired an extra five and a half pounds in weight in time for the climb.

It’s always nice to add a new bit to a favourite ride and everyone enjoyed the cycle path from the golf course down into Portslade. Our route back to Worthing took us through Shoreham docks and back along the coast path to a selection of cakes and savouries served in Phil and Verna’s shady garden.
