Ride report and photos for January 2006

Southwater, West Sussex The weather wasn't very kind to us for our January ride. As the 12 riders assembled at Southwater Country Park it didn't seem too bad, it was overcast with the odd damp spot but pretty soon after we set off southwards on the Downs Link cycle route the rain started and didn't let up for the rest of the day. Not to be put off, we followed the route which generally climbed for the first 12 or so miles to the highest point of the ride at Handcross. From here it was nearly all down hill to the lunch stop in The Black Horse in Nuthurst. Fortunately they put us in a room with a roaring log stove so we were able to warm up bits and pieces of clothing while we ate. After a lumpy start to the afternoon we had a good stretch away from the traffic on a well surfaced bridleway from Partridge Green to Dial Post from where it was only about 4 miles back to the start. We were in good time getting back and the cafe was still open so we all stocked up on tea and cakes before heading our separate ways home. Ride distance 32 miles. This is the profile for Dave's ride, which was slightly longer than the others.
