July 10th - Farnborough
July’s ride was the annual treasure hunt, setting off from Farnborough in light drizzle that stopped and started all the way to coffee in Farnham. Sadly, Liz and Ken fell foul to greasy cobbles and dropped the bike but, after a shot of caffeine and thorough application of plasters and dressings, they were able to join the hunt for answers to clues that took them from Farnham through Crondall and the leafy lanes around Odiham. Following the grid references, answering the questions and collecting ‘treasure’ ( a feather, pine cone and something red) for extra points along the way, brought the four highly competitive teams to lunch at The Water Witch on the Basingstoke canal. Each team, of course, fought hard for second place but Tim misjudged it and, having won the trophy with a magnificent 19 points will be running next year’s event. Another 20 miles around the Hampshire lanes of Greywell, Long Sutton and Well took us back in afternoon sunshine to Farnborough for tea and cake and presentation of the trophy to a very worthy winner – well done, Tim!
